Our journey began in a corner classroom in Lawrence, Kansas at the school of Journalism. Stephanie and Austin were enrolled in a college class that was taught by a professor who used assigned seating. And as fate would have it, Austin was assigned a seat in row one, while Stephanie was assigned in the seat behind him in row two. Shortly into the semester, as March Madness approached, Stephanie saw an opportunity to strike up a conversation with Austin. She thought that a great way to break the ice would be to fill out a March Madness bracket and impress Austin with her picks. Stephanie worked hard and filled out an optimal bracket that had Kansas vs. Kentucky in the national championship, with Kentucky being picked as the winner. When Stephanie finally showed Austin, he was very disappointed to see that she had gone against their own school by picking Kentucky to win it all… she went low, and he went high…but her prediction was correct. Stephanie and Austin ended up working together on a group project shortly after, and their connection took off from there. Nine years later, Stephanie finished law school & passed the Bar like a champ! To celebrate, Stephanie and Austin had planned a week-long trip back to their nest in Kansas City, with a pit stop in Lawrence, Kansas. On August 7th, they drove through campus and walked down Jayhawk Boulevard before ending up at the KU School of Journalism. They tried to enter the building but the doors were locked. Instead, they started peeking through the windows on the side of the building, showing into the classroom where they had met. As both Austin and Stephanie were on the ledge looking through the glass, Austin stepped back, pulled out the ring, and got down on one knee. AND SHE SAID YES!
