Evan and Karo met during their first years of college on a film set. They both were on the camera team. The first time they saw each other, there was a weird connection. Karo had a lot of walls up, trying to be mysterious. Evan was just Evan - laughing, making jokes, trying to crack the egg open with his positivity. Even though Evan thought Karo was quite weird, he had this thought: “She’s going to be a very important person in my life.” Since that day, their friendship grew. Karo always felt safe with Evan, so one day she decided to ask him if he would like to become roommates. Well, you won’t believe what he said! Evan moved in - their rooms were just a few feet away - but somehow they would still stumble into each other’s rooms and fill the space with laughter, stupid jokes, and an understanding of who they are as people. For the first time, Karo felt she didn’t have to label their friendship as “best friends,” because it was so obvious and apparent to herself and others. Evan and Karo became especially close that summer of 2024, when school had ended. They were sitting on her bed working - she was editing her script, he was editing his first documentary. They lay side by side. They became so comfortable with each other, Karo just laid in his arms. Evan showed her the final cut of his film, and Karo was so moved she hugged him so deeply they stayed in it for a minute, both so proud of each other. It became awkward… stuck in time. What, why… how? The immediate thought of “what is happening?” hit their heads. She looked up, inches away from his green eyes, and asked, “What is happening?” Evan smiled and started to play stupid. “Ee… I don’t know what you mean.” As they sat in bed, Karo knew she had to finally confront their fear and asked, “What is this?” Evan tried to play it off as if nothing was happening. She kept questioning him. He didn’t want to come off as weird. So they both sat in silence until Karo looked into Evan’s eyes with this confrontational gaze, expecting an answer. He took Karo’s hand and placed it onto his heart - beating so fast. They both looked back into each other’s eyes once again and knew. That moment cemented the end of their friendship as Karo kissed Evan - unleashing their true feelings and becoming what people know today as: “And they were roommates.” Or should I say… fiancéeeee!!!!
