Let me tell you… aside from practicing every day together, Karl and I would spend hours and hours together in the library studying until the guilt of every party or “kickback” we went to afterward, would be rightfully justified. I’ve known Karlon since freshman year at Loyola High school in 2006 (16 yrs ago!). At the time, being a young black man on campus was enough to create a friendship, but this wasn’t the case for us. He was and is still probably the most kind and genuine person I’ve ever met. You’d never forget someone like Karlon. Lucky for me, Karlon chose to participate in Loyola track and field, where we both found our love for the sport and realized to choose this sport over our main ones. I was a soccer player and Karlon was a basketball star. We both accepted athletic scholarships at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where we continued our friendship as roommates. Your college roommate isn’t just a person you share a dorm with, but a person you experience a new chapter of life with. Not only that, we competed as teammates for another 4 years until the big graduation day. Now, we’re lifelong friends and I’m excited to share more wins in life with this man. Congratulations Karl, we’ve been through so much and you inspire me, really. Happy to be your friend.
