Anthony and I first met each other when we were both working at the crazy tuna. I was new there and I didn't know very many people yet. One Sunday morning Anthony was working the omelet station and asked if I would like one... Little did he know, that cooking for me is most definitely the way to my heart. This same day my uncle just so happened to stop by for Sunday brunch and on his way out he very quickly realized that there was something wrong with his car. Thinking that this was just the battery he spotted Anthony and asked if he would be able to give him a jumpstart. I happened to be leaving work and told my uncle that if he had any other issues to call me and he could use my tow service. One nap, 3 hours, and several phone calls later I made my way back to the crazy tuna where my uncles car had only made it about 200 feet up the road. While we waited for the tow truck at the tiki bar Anthony walked out and joined us for a drink. This is where my uncle likes to take credit for our dating success... Because during this time I was newly single and my uncle thought that he would play wingman and set me up on a date. As it turns out he and Anthony were on the same page without even realizing it and that is when Anthony asked me out on my first real date. If not for several very out of the ordinary events who knows where Anthony and I would be now. But, we are thankful every day that this day went the way that it did because it lead us to each other/
We went to Aruba in January of 2021 for a regular vacation. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that this is where my best friend would ask me to spend the rest of our lives together. Our trip to Aruba was magical beyond words. We went scuba diving, saw so many beautiful creatures, swam with tons of sea turtles, explored the island, and so much more. On our 4th day there what I though was an ordinary night out turned into a proposal on the beach in front of the sunset and the most magical night of our lives.
Although you could say that Karlina and I technically met at the mandatory Employee meeting we had to introduce all the new staff to the Tuna, it wasn't until a month later that we actually had a conversation. She had my attention long before she ever spoke, but when she did I was determined to find out more about her. One Sunday morning I was working a brunch shift at Tuna, it was a 8am-2pm shift, and all I had to do was make omelets for the breakfast buffet. A lot of us worked the night before, and getting up early enough to get breakfast before work wasn't an option. I didn't make omelets for everyone that worked there, and I certainly didn't make them for anyone without them asking, but for whatever reason I reached out to Karlina directly and asked her if she was hungry. Of course she was, and I proceeded to make her the best omelet she's ever had in her life. ( Thats an actual quote) That very same day her Uncle came in and ended up stuck there due to car troubles. I went home after my shift, showered and had planned to go back to Tuna and hang out at the tiki bar. Thankfully, this was also a part of Karlina's plans as her Uncles car was still stuck there and he needed her help. By way of canoe, I paddled my way to the Tuna not knowing of the events that would transpire upon my arrival. I docked my canoe like a pro, hopped up onto the pier and made my way inside to see who was managing and grab a drink from the bar. While I was sitting there, I was talking to a buddy of mine named Rob about her and how next time I saw her I was going to ask her out on a date. That's when Rob told me that she was actually here, right out at the outside bar. I polished off my drink for a little extra courage, made my way outside and proceeded to make my way to the tiki bar. Her Uncle was the first person I saw so I asked him where she was. He pointed me in the right direction, endorsing me to his niece as he did it. I walked up to her, asked her to dinner, and here we are.
Karlina and I have a tradition going of taking a vacation every January since we got together. The first being in Ocean City, the following Punta Cana, and then in 2020 our plans were to go to Aruba. It was an Idea proposed to us by my grandmother, she was a former scuba diver and wanted to be able to say she scuba dove with one of her grandkids. We booked an Air BnB at a cozy house with a pool in the back, arranged our flights and prepared to take what would be the best vacation of our lives. From the moment I knew we were going to go to Aruba, I knew that was the time and place to pop the question. Of course I was also worried about lining up a round of golf, and making sure I passed all my scuba cert classes, but this was priority number 1 by far. I went to Jared, walked through some options on a ring and daimond, and left that same day with the ring in my hand. I have never been good at holding in a surprise, but I focused everything I had into making sure she hadn't the slightest idea what was going to happen on the trip. We hopped on the plane, landed a few hours later, and began to relax. Well, she relaxed. I was busy arranging plans for a romantic evening at a restaurant by the ocean. After a quick google search and some pursuing of possible locations, I settled on a restaurant that was not only by the ocean, but offered tables in the sand. I called, told them what my plans were and what I would like them to do, and they encouraged me that they could make it happen. Karlina was wearing a red dress which complimented her everything, and I remember following her as we walked to our dinner. She knew it was something I planned, but had know idea what I even planned. I know this because I made a comment along the lines of, " we should have gotten engaged so that we could get free champagne" and she agreed and said maybe we will come back soon. As you can probably tell, our dinner went extremely well, and now she is almost my wife.
