Karlie and Sebastian met at Penn State during the spring semester of 2017 when they joined the same business fraternity, Phi Beta Lambda. They became friends the following school year through fraternity events and their shared business ethics class. They would usually sit together during lectures whenever Sebastian actually decided to show up to class. The two started talking more when Sebastian began texting Karlie asking for class notes. Karlie kindly sent them over a few times, but eventually got tired of rewarding the boy who never came to class… so she stopped responding! This made him eventually start to come to class more often. As time went on, they started spending more time together within their friend group and quickly realized there might be something more than friendship there. In May 2018, Sebastian asked Karlie on their first official date at Gigi’s Southern Table before heading home for the summer. Even though she had known Sebastian for over a year by then, Karlie was so nervous she could barely eat her tacos and sweet potato fries. From that point on, they knew this was something special. Karlie and Sebastian officially started dating on July 7, 2018 and the rest is history!

To tell this story properly, we have to go all the way back to December 2019. While out to dinner together, Sebastian told Karlie that her Christmas gift would be a scavenger hunt around New York City, complete with new restaurants, museums, and fun activities throughout the city. But just a few months later, COVID changed everyone’s plans, and the scavenger hunt never happened. Fast forward to March 2025, when Sebastian casually said, “Hey, let’s finally do that scavenger hunt we never got around to doing.” Since this had technically been “planned” for years, Karlie wasn’t suspicious at all. On the morning of March 22, 2025, Sebastian arrived with a series of handwritten clues to kick off the day. Their first stop was Karlie’s favorite coffee shop, followed by a visit to a modern art museum. The adventure continued with lunch at Manhatta overlooking New York City and Brooklyn. At this point Karlie started getting suspicious, mainly because Sebastian was way too nervous to eat his lunch. After lunch, they headed to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden before making their way to Dumbo with views of the Brooklyn Bridge and city skyline. There, Sebastian handed Karlie one final clue, a love letter. At the end of it, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Of course, she said yes!
