Sundays are World Market days. I don't know when the tradition started but we've kept it going for a few years. I got a slow start to the morning but Ben was ready to go! I refused to leave the house before washing the dishes from breakfast. I also needed to get ready for the day. After much delay, we were finally on our way out. We proceeded to get in the car and headed to World Market after much adieu. Not soon after getting on the highway, two police motorcycles abruptly started pursuing us. Ben lost his nerve and began swerving slightly and naturally the lights behind us began to flash. We found a pullover spot off the highway and soon went through the traffic violation procedure with the "arresting" officer. The police officer began asking questions concerning the ownership of the vehicle because it matched the description of a recently stolen one. Since it belonged to Ben's company, the officer made Ben step out of the vehicle for further questioning. From the rear view mirror, I could see they prompted him to get on his knees, patting him down & roughing him up! Then a different police officer approached my side of the vehicle. He asked me to get out and watch the charade unfold. Shook with fear, I walked to the rear of the car where they asked me to open the trunk to prove there weren't weapons. I obeyed. Glancing at what I thought was an empty trunk. Then, a second (or third - I can't remember) look revealed an opened box with a ring. I looked back at Ben and again at the ring. He asked me to marry him. I said nothing. Through this whole pretense, I was preparing myself for jail. I so wanted to gush and glow over a proposal. Instead I said nothing. Shaken and crying, I eventually got the word "yes" out, but I think I said, "You scared me!" more. It was one of the scariest, funniest, best moments of my life.
