Karli & Ryan Proposal Story

Have you ever done something incredible in your life and when you look back on it, you realize that it is all a blur and you basically blacked out for the duration of it? Well, I have and with that being said, let me take you back to the months leading up to our proposal story and the weekend that I asked Karli to spend forever with me (to the best of my knowledge at least). Months Leading Up September- October-ish Karli and I were visiting her mom (Debi) and her dad (Bart) at their lake house in Corsicana for the weekend. At this point, we had been together for a little over a year and I knew without a doubt that she was the person I wanted to spend forever with but I wanted to wait for that perfect proposal moment. That night we were all sitting in the living room watching some TV when the topic of taking a family vacation came up. Everyone was on board and the only question was where we would go. A couple of different options came up but eventually we landed on a New York trip for the month of December. My mind started racing because I knew that this was the best opportunity for a proposal that I would get. If you know Karli Britt, you know that she is a planner. So while she planned the entire New York trip to a T, with the help of Debi, I was able to pick out and buy Karli's dream ring. In the following weeks, Debi and I started to plan just exactly how I would pull this off without her finding out. I started to do a little research on some of the places Karli wanted to visit during our trip and decided that Bow Bridge in Central park would be the perfect place. If I could have fast forwarded to the New York trip at that moment, I would have.

The New York Trip

Thursday, November 29th I have been a lifelong Saints fan and Karli and her entire family are Cowboys fans (I know, I know). It just so happened that the Saints were playing the Cowboys on Thursday night football in Dallas the night before we left to go to New York. Bart was able to get us some tickets so we all decided to go to the game. Nothing worth talking about happened so I'll just go ahead and skip to the next day...

Friday, November 30th

We flew to New York bright and early and had a heck of a day touring the city. We were able to figure out the subway system to the best of our ability and knocked out a ton of awesome destinations: 911 memorial, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, etc. We were all having a blast but the only thing I could think about was visiting Central Park the next day.

Saturday, December 1st; The Proposal

After a sleepless night, the first thing on the agenda was brunch. Earlier that morning, I stopped by Debi and Bart's room to finalize the game plan on how I would do it, where I would do it, etc. We came to the idea that we would take a picture and Debi told me to wink at her when I was getting ready to drop down to my knee so she could have the video ready. We had it all figured out. Originally, we were supposed to go to Central Park sometime during the early afternoon but with the brunch spot that we picked out being so close to Central Park, we decided to head over there immediately after we ate. I couldn't really focus much on the food or any conversations and honestly, I have no idea how Karli didn't notice me not being myself. After about a block walk, we got to Central Park. Debi was holding the ring in her purse and for a split second, Karli turned around and Debi and I executed a flawless ring swap (it probably wasn't as quick or flawless as I think in my mind but it seemed perfect). I now had the ring and had my eyes focused on the spot that I had picked out from all of the research I did on the online pictures of Bow Bridge. Walking up to the bridge, there was a saxophonist playing some Christmas Carols and as we got across the bridge to a beautiful spot by the water, we started to take a couple of pictures. On cue, the saxophonist began to play "It had to be you" and I immediately started winking at Debi. Here comes the blur... I turned to Karli, grabbed both of her hands, said something to her (I honestly have no idea what I said) dropped down to my knee and asked the girl of my dreams to marry me. The perfect proposal that I always wanted had taken place and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
