The couple met in 5th grade when the Maske family moved to Freeman, SD in 2010. Charles and Karli began dating in the summer of 2013 when they were going into 8th grade. The couple graduated high school together in 2018 and will be graduating from The University of South Dakota this spring. Charles will be graduating with a major in economics, and Karli will be graduating with a major in secondary English education.

On the evening of May, 29th 2021, Charles planned a date for the couple to go shopping, have diner at Granite City in Sioux Falls, and go to Falls Park to take pictures by the falls. As Karli was setting up the camera to take a picture, Charles got down on one knee, and of course, she said yes. The couple was lucky enough that Charles's best man Jalen and his girlfriend Anne were available, and more than willing, to capture pictures of the special moment. A funny event of the day was that Karli almost ruined the timing of Jalen and Anne snapping pictures because she spent too much time shopping!
