The dress code is semi-formal, but as long as you are wearing what makes you feel best, that's all that matters to us! Examples of semi-formal include cocktail, midi or maxi dresses, jumpsuits, suits with jackets, saris, long kurtas, and lehengas. Ceremony will (hopefully) be outdoors. Please avoid wearing the color white. All other colors (really, all of them) are perfect!
We can't predict exactly, but typically in late May the weather is warm (around 66-75 Fahrenheit). In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors.
Due to space constraints, we are unable to accommodate children or extra guests at our wedding. Please bring the names/number of people specified on the invitation. Please let us know ASAP if your circumstances change!
Please see "Travel" section for info regarding the free shuttle, and detailed parking instructions to the Brookfield Zoo if you choose to drive.
For parking/venue questions, please call Brookfield Zoo Catered Events at +1 (708) 688-8355 or the general zoo information line at +1 (708) 688-8000. On wedding day, for any other questions or updates, please text our day of coordinator, Michelle at +1 (630) 336-3087. Thank you!
Ceremony will be performed outdoors but the cocktail hour and reception are indoors. Please monitor your health and do not attend if you are experiencing symptoms of any respiratory illnesses. Covid-19 rapid tests are available at most US pharmacies and drugstores, but they are not 100% accurate. We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep everyone safe!
Great question! Zoos are controversial. There is a wide variety of welfare standards at zoos. Thankfully, Alex worked here as a veterinary extern. She worked closely with the zoo vets here to help with anesthesia and animal care. She can confirm it is a wonderful and high quality zoo. Some of the most experienced and qualified veterinarians in the world work here to help contribute to wildlife conservation work and to keep the standards extremely high. They work closely with the University of Illinois Zoo and Wildlife team and there is crossover between staff. Alex and Karan decided to get married here because this is a nonprofit organization that they are proud to contribute to. Plus, the zoo is fun! There's a carousel. What's not to love?
