Karlee and Rick met on September 26, 2014 after being introduced by two of their best friends. Rick was living in New York at the time and Karlee was living in Los Angeles. They kept in touch over the next year visiting each other from coast to coast but didn't start dating until the following year when Karlee moved to New York City. By chance, they started dating on September 26, 2015. Over the last four years, they made some amazing memories living in the Big Apple and then moving to Los Angeles.

On July 20th, 2019 Rick proposed to Karlee in Madison Square Park in New York City, NY. The two were in the city for vacation visiting friends and Rick coordinated with his and Karlee's family and friends to be there waiting. True to Rick's personality he had everything planned to the nines, including a map of where he and Karlee would be the day before so there was no chance of ruining the surprise. That morning on the way to get brunch, Rick stopped the cab at the entrance of the park. He and Karlee walked through parked and stop to sit on a bench, the same bench (still up for debate) where Rick and Karlee had exchanged "I Love You's" three years earlier. After Rick proposed, their family and friends ran out from the bushes to celebrate. It was a day filled with love, lots of laughter and a few too many froses (frozen rose).
