Proposal

12/12/2020

Kirk proposed to me on his birthday (2020)! My plan: I take him for a special dinner at Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. Little did I know, he had super-secret ninja stuff going for our evening. So, we both knew in advance where we were going for the dinner. Since, I wanted him to approve and enjoy “His” special day. I made reservations and we were both looking forward to our evening. Were dressed to the 9’s and prepared for a little after dinner excursion to downtown Austin. It started in the car (actually more than a week before, but I had NO IDEA). Kirk said he was going to get wine with his steak (he rarely drinks wine). I'm the wine drinker, so I replied that dry red wine would be a good choice. The whole time, I’m skeptical about the wine comment, but I dismiss it to him trying to be “fancy” (not Kirk, but whatever). So, we get to the restaurant, and sit down. Our waiter comes and Kirk immediately asks for the wine menu. I’m still skeptical, but I didn’t suspect anything was afoot. The waiter brings the wine menu, and Kirk hands it to me. I opened it and there’s a beautiful card with a Sunflower (my favorite or one of my favorites). The card read: “Karla, You are my sunshine you brighten every day of my life since God brought you to me, I’d be honored to have you as my wife! Will you marry me?” As I read the card, he pushes his chair back and drops to a knee, and produces a beautiful ring from somewhere... I was totally surprised and my hands cover my face, and tears well up in my eyes. FINALLY!!! The moment I’ve been waiting for since I was a little girl thinking of “My prince.” Classic Kirk, “Is that a Yes?” The confusion and the tears rolling, I say “YES!!” He put the beautiful ring on my finger and I begin to notice the extra special atmosphere, and the waitress filming the event.

Kirk's side

12/12/20

Kirk: The pressure is on!! I have an idea of the perfect moment she imagines. I don’t have a clue how to achieve perfection (to be honest). I’m saved from being a man and my shortcomings by Kim and Clay King. I love my sister Forever! She loves a surprise and helped me so much. I knew it had to be photo perfect. Everyone knows that is not ME. To avoid suspicion, the only chance I had to dress nice without tipping my hand was 12/12/20. Totally her plan which, I hijacked without her ever having any idea!!! I knew I wanted to spend my life with Karla! I wanted it to be special, and I knew she loves photos even though I’m genetically predisposed against that. So, I went to Diamonds Direct and picked what I believed to be the perfect diamond and setting. I knew I needed help for the romantic gesture I wanted but was truly not equipped to accomplish. I called Kim. She loves a challenge and I have been described as much worse. I told her about the when (my birthday) I had in mind. She was an angel in helping me float ideas and helped me to plan one of the most important moments of my life. We (She) brought Clay’s graphic design skills into the mix. We, with my minimal input on the background (Sunflower) and my words were able to draft the perfect message. Kim sent it to Office Depot for printing on appropriate card stock. My job was to set up the delivery. Fortunately, I knew where we were going. I coordinated with the event coordinator to set up the perfect setting, the video, and everything else. I had to tell a little white lie when I went over to deliver the card a couple days before the event, but I quickly fessed up when the cat was out of the bag. Thank you, Kimberly and Clay King for sooooo much which has not been conveyed here!!
