It all started with a fire! Delvin's building caught on fire in November 2019 so he needed a place to stay. The pastors at Christian Centre Church connected him with Karissa's family since they had extra rooms. Delvin moved in with the Hufnagel's in December 2019 and that is how we met! We began to get to know each other over those first few months, and we truly saw God's hand in our relationship. By March, we were dating, and the rest is history!

Delvin had planned to surprise Karissa with a proposal by the lake at sunset, so he involved some family and friends to execute his master plan. Karissa was told to dress up for a barbecue with friends at Lakeshore, which she completely fell for. As Delvin finished setting up, he noticed that the sun was already beginning to set, so he raced home to get Karissa and rushed her through picking an outfit, much to her disdain. He then tried to nonchalantly speed down to Lakeshore, attempting to race the sun. Once at Lakeshore, Delvin pretended not to know where he was taking Karissa, and called his friend multiple times for "directions". After walking for nearly 10 minutes and enjoying the sunset, Delvin & Karissa turned off the main path to find the "barbecue". Karissa got distracted by something off the path and while she was looking away, Delvin took the ring out of his backpack and frantically threw the backpack aside. All of a sudden, Karissa tripped on something, looked down, and saw Delvin's backpack at her feet. He accidentally dropped it in front of her! Very confused, Karissa looked over at Delvin for an explanation, only to see him down on one knee, holding a beautiful ring. It took Karissa several minutes to process what was happening, as she was still looking around for the barbecue. Finally, it sunk in, and Delvin asked her to marry him. Clearly, she said yes!! Delvin then led her down a path of rose petals and lights to the shore, where he had set up a gourmet dinner with all her favourite foods and desserts. There was a bench with cushions and blankets and a canopy all decorated with rose petals, as their favourite song played on a speaker. They sat together and enjoyed the sunset on the lake, as Karissa tried to comprehend Delvin's success in surprising her so thoroughly!
