We're Getting Married!!

Ben and Karisa met at a tailgate on September 10th, 2022 held by the SIU Campus BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry). They didn't talk much but introduced themselves. After that Karisa, with her friend Grace, decided to see what the BCM was all about and attended the first Bible Study of the school year. Little did they know that it was just going to be a small group. A very small group, of three, as Ben taught the lesson Karisa couldn't help but think how smart, dedicated and passionate Ben was about God's Word. Karisa and Grace decided to keep attending on Tuesday and Thursday nights for hang out and Bible Study along with a few other friends. After a few months of getting to know one another, Ben asked Karisa out in mid November, but she was out of town. As Ben stressed about if asking out Karisa was the right call or if he messed everything up he receives a text from her asking to reschedule for a time she would be back in town after the holiday. They went on their first date to Don Taco on December 3rd. As you can believe it was awkward for Karisa as this was a whole new experience, but enjoyed talking with Ben and getting to know him. They decided to go on another date December 9th at Common Grounds Coffee House. They discussed classes they were taking, books they were currently reading or favorites as well as holiday plans. As they were leaving Karisa suggested that it was her turn to pick the next date location. Karisa took Ben to Little Grand Canyon for their 3rd date on December 14th. They enjoyed their hike while talking and learning more about each other. As they enjoyed their time together in person that soon came to be through text as Ben traveled home for Christmas. They spent all Christmas break texting each other. When Ben arrived back in Carbondale they continued to text and go out on dates here and there. On January 27th, 2023 Ben and Karisa went on a hike at Giant City State Park and discussed taking a step forward in their relationship. Karisa was very nervous as this all became a reality of having a boyfriend and wasn't quite ready in the moment. After work on her way home Karisa called Ben with confidence but once she heard his voice the confidence was no longer there. She eventually told him to ask her the question he was going to ask earlier while they were on the hike. Ben asked Karisa to be his girlfriend and the rest is history. While dating Ben and Karisa went on may adventures together from taking day trips to the ST Louis Zoo, Holiday World, Skiing, Six Flags, spending time in Peoria with his family, and more. On January 27th 2025, Ben asked Karisa to go somewhere special for their 2 year anniversary. He picked her up from her house after work and brought flowers, helped her carry her work bags in AND suggested that she change clothes. They got in the car and drove to Little Grand Canyon. As they walked the path they reflected on the past 2 years and talked of their favorite memories together. As they approached the lookout point Karisa takes in the view with Ben by her side. As she turns around Ben is down on one knee asking "Will you marry me?" with surprise Karisa askes "Really? Are you sure?" Ben reassured her that this was in fact real and she said "Yes!"
