Our love story began in April 2017, shortly after Kari moved to Columbus. By chance, her friend Lauren invited her to lunch at the Rusty Bucket near Kari’s apartment in Bexley. Joining them were Lauren's boyfriend at the time, Tommy Smolarz, and his cousin Shane. The connection between Kari and Shane was instant—they laughed, talked, and immediately felt at ease in each other’s company. A few weeks later, fate brought them together again at a onesie bar crawl, where Kari showed up dressed as a unicorn. The spark between them was undeniable, and they spent much of that summer together. However, timing is everything, and Kari was still settling into her new life in Columbus. They decided to focus on themselves for a while, but even during their time apart, they were never far from each other’s thoughts. By April 2018, it became clear that their connection was more than just a spark—it was the kind of love that stands the test of time. Reuniting felt natural, as though no time had passed. Since then, they’ve been inseparable, making incredible memories: frequent visits to New York City, dozens of concerts, an additional dog, trips to Lake Oconee, a Dolphins-Bengals game, Ohio University brew week, and countless adventures in between. Since then, life together has been one exciting journey after another—traveling, exploring, and building a lifetime of love. Their journey proves that sometimes love takes its time, and the best things are worth waiting for. Now, they can’t wait to start their next chapter as husband and wife.
