How we met

Nathan got in line for a happy hour to close out a conference they both attended in Seattle. Kari thought “oh he’s cute.” When Nathan, Kari, and her coworker Elsa were the last 3 people allowed into the at-capacity event, Kari hoped it was a sign. Nathan wasn’t thinking about Kari and he spent most of the happy hour looking for one of his coworkers. When Elsa and Kari were about to call it a night, there was Nathan standing in line for snacks. Elsa asked if Kari wanted to try chatting again, and they went for it. With the wing-woman performance of the century by Elsa, a stolen cookie, and some trash talk about football, Nathan found himself asking if Kari was free on Saturday. And while they say don’t get into cars with strangers, Elsa and Kari accepted a ride from Nathan back to North Seattle. Kari realized that maybe Nathan wasn’t just a business bro in a suit when he had a booster seat in his car for his nephew, Nolan. When Saturday came, Nathan pulled up to Kari’s big shared house in Green Lake and thought “is this girl rich or does she live with her parents?” When he knocked on the door and introduced himself to her roommate (instead of just texting her from the car) Kari thought “wow my standards must be low because this is, like, really impressive to me.” Nathan took Kari to Umi sushi where she choked on an edamame and spent 15 minutes in the bathroom attempting to recover. After a delicious dinner that was just okay on conversation, they made their way to a pinball dive-bar where they were both much more comfortable. They closed the night in the back booth of a speakeasy, bonding over their favorite band, Kings of Leon, and making plans to see each other the next morning for the Seahawks game. Date 2 put Nathan through the ringer of meeting some of Kari’s closest and smartest friends over Seahawks football and bowling. Date 3 would be two days later. On date 4 the next weekend, Kari beat Nathan at beer pong. The rest, as they say, is history.
