A new travel requirement called ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) will be introduced for many visitors to Europe, including Italy, later in 2025. This means you'll need to complete a quick online application before your trip. Update: Good news! ETIAS is not yet in effect, so your May 2025 travel plans to Italy are not impacted. What are the U.S. passport requirements?

Your U.S. passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your departure from Italy. For example, if your planned departure date is July 30, your passport must be valid until at least October 30.
