How We Met

Philippians 2: 1-7

A Pattern for Destiny Karen and I met in the Spring of 2017 while attending Theology Overview at Kingdom Agenda Bible Institute, a ministry of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church. We met on the stairs outside the classroom one morning; but had no idea of the tapestry God was threading together. Several months passed before we finally spoke again. By this time, Karen didn’t realize it, but I had been looking for her after hearing her speak during a church service one Sunday. God had spoken to me that day and told me that Karen was the wife I’d been praying for. Though I was at first skeptical of what I’d heard, God reminded me that I had prayed very specifically for the woman He would bring into my and my children’s life long before she and I met. God had lined up our paths not to just cross, but to be woven together. We continued to run into each other at various events, finally contacting each other and connecting several months later. Our first official date was to a local jazz festival. The rest is a beautiful canvas God is still weaving together today!

A God Moment

Philippians 2:3-4

Paul and I started premarital counseling 4 months after deciding to court. I remember thinking, maybe it is too soon to start classes on marriage, but from day one Paul told me he would marry me. He made clear his intentions and stated that, "Premarital classes were a place for us to learn Godly habits for building a marriage that would be for Gods purpose and His original intention." How could I say no to that! We learned that the foundation for solid marriages was: Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interest, but also to the interests of others. From that moment on, we committed the scripture to memory, we also committed to God that humility would be our secret weapon. As long as we were submitted to Christ, we could learn submission to each other.

What Marriage Means to Us

Ephesians 5: 25-33

Our marriage would be a testimony of God’s faithfulness and love, His covering and covenant between Him and us. Our marriage is going to be our ministry. We get a for-life partnership with God and each other as we gain Kingdom territory walking this wild and precious road daily in surrendered service to God and His purposes.
