One of our favorite things about Tulsa is the Art Deco architecture and history downtown. If you're staying at a hotel (or even if not!), we highly recommend Tulsa Tours for a fun and informative walking tour of downtown. Tulsa Tours's website also has a TON of great recommendations for local food, drinks, and activities - so check that out as well!
Tulsa Tough is an annual 3-day cycling race, but the locals know it to be Tulsa's biggest party weekend. Events start on Friday, and end with the much beloved "Cry Baby Hill" crit on Sunday. Cry Baby Hill is Mardi Gras meets Tour de France. If you can, it's worth your while to stay in Tulsa for a little longer to spectate or even participate! If you choose the latter, check the website for "townie" and/or Gran Fondo sign up instructions.
Greenwood Rising, a new permanent exhibit in the Greenwood District, tells the story of Black Wall Street and the racially-motivated massacre that took place there in 1921. We love that this museum shares a story that went unheard for so long, and pays a beautiful tribute by bringing the Greenwood District to life. Don't miss it!
Waite and Genevieve Phillips built Villa Philbrook, a 72-room Italian Renaissance-style home with 23 acres of formal gardens. In 1938, the couple donated their home to become a museum, which opened a year later. The general art collection is stocked with Native American pieces along with holdings in American, African, Asian, European, modern and contemporary art. If you only have time for one museum in Tulsa, this is it - it's our favorite!
Utica Square is unbeatable for shopping and dining! We recommend stopping at Queenies for a slice of their Sour Cream Lime Tart, and picking up some Glacier Chocolate truffles as a sweet souvenir.
