How else do two twenty first century couples meet? On MATCH.com of course! On July 26, 2019 Sal asked me out for burgers and beer at Society Burger. When I walked up to the restaurant he was sitting on the bench next door waiting. He waved and smiled at me and I immediately melted! Sal's smile is still one of my favorite things! In fact, I thought he was so cute it made me nervous enough to toss my phone off the patio and into the parking lot. What a first impression! haha.
So how did he sell the idea? BEER. Sal found a local photographer that needed to "build their portfolio" and was looking for couples to dress up for a "Tulsa date night" and snap a few pictures. AND, the photographer was giving away $100 in Welltown Brewery gift cards as a Thank You. The beer gift card made convincing Sal to have our pictures taken an easy sell. Of course he was in! The day of the pictures Sal: 1.) Claimed he was going to wear a Dodgers shirt and hat because "that's what he always wears for date night" 2.) Ran to his cousin's house to "drop-off his nail gun" thirty minutes before we were supposed to leave 3.) Wasn't planning on shaving his four day old beard This made me: 1.) Angry 2.) Frustrated 3.) Annoyed He somehow got me to "convince" him to dress up and wear his nice new sports coat with his boots. We had pre-picture cocktails to help us relax a little because Sal kept saying he was so nervous. And still, I had NO IDEA what was going on! We met up with the photographer and he wanted to try and recreate a picture he had seen in a magazine once before. We stood back to back and slowly walked away from each other. When I turned around he was down on his knee smiling up at me. I. Lost. It. Cue the tears, and the laughing, and the smiling, and all the joy! I don't exactly remember what he said because I was so overwhelmed ... but it went something like this: "I love you so much and I don't remember the speech I had planned. Will you marry me?" And I couldn't wait to say yes!
