Where does this story begin? Technically speaking, Kara and Jake’s first meet began all the way back in 2010. Kara decided she wanted to visit Buffalo in the dead of winter to see a mutual friend of theirs. (Shout out to Katie Geary, none of this would be possible without you). It seemed like any other visit to Buffalo, except this was the weekend Kara and Jake had met their future spouse. Now the rest of this story has many small details that bring us to present day. The first was Kara’s return to Buffalo for that same mutual friend’s wedding nearly 10 years later, on October 12th. Just so happens this is the same day Kara’s parents got married many, many years ago. Kara and Jake didn’t meet again at the actual wedding but at the after party was where they reconnected. Towards the end of the wedding, Jake had gone up to the bar, and when he noticed nobody around was looking, he snagged a bottle of wine and stashed it into his jacket pocket. It felt pretty slick at the time. At the after party, Kara was sitting alone on her phone looking uninterested to her surroundings. This was when Jake recognized her and had the genius idea of “she seems approachable.” After multiple failed attempts of witty banter and asking if she recognized him (she didn’t), Jake pulled out the catalyst. The kryptonite….the “oh, you have wine?” The conversation went pretty well from there. At one point it had turned to sports. Stricken by jealousy that Kara’s football team recently had a Super Bowl championship, Jake decided to make a bet as the Bills and Eagles were set to meet a few weeks later. The loser of the matchup must visit the winner. And in typical betting on the Bills fashion, Jake lost. And in late November a trip to Philly ensued. The trip was a success. Lunch in Fairmount, xFinity Live, a Sixers game, McGillin’s, L’etage. Then a trip to Pittsburgh for a Bills game where they met a very insightful mailman who ended up assisting Jake win a fantasy title. A Philly New Year’s and a chicken wing tour in Buffalo, and before you know it, the relationship was solidified at Tacconelli’s in February. Jake moved to Philadelphia on Memorial Day of 2021 and proposed in November of 2023…the weekend of the Philly marathon. The same weekend Jake first came to visit Kara in Philadelphia. It’s been a fun adventure of weddings, Philbillie trips, vacations, beach weekends, sports, restaurants, and PLENTY of Buffalo travel in between it all. NOW LET’S PARTY!
