If you plan on booking a hotel in Waikiki, the are two routes you can take to get to Kahuku, but each route will be about an hour drive.
For our BOP family, when booking a hotel in Waikiki some hotels will give you a discount for law enforcement.
Booking tickets around May-April would be best, and flights are typically cheaper when flying out and departing on a weekday.
