On a cold Tuesday, Ryan and Jess met at Pigeon Hill Brewery for their first date. Jess wanted to make sure she had an excuse to leave early in case the date was a total flop, so she brought along her Econ textbook prepared to mutter something about needing to study for an upcoming exam. Hours passed and the two of them were sitting in an empty brewery, unaware that it was closing time. It turns out Jess didn’t need to carry out her escape plan. A few days later Ryan asked Jess to meet him for a drink at Old Boys Brewhouse. Jess walked in to find Ryan sitting next to the band ordering drinks. What Jess didn’t expect to find were Ryan’s parents and Aunt Linda running towards them and immediately going in for a hug. The family kept a careful watch on the two and made sure to send Ryan a handful of texts reminding him to be a gentleman. After meeting the parents on the second date, their relationship started to grow. Their nights meeting at bars and restaurants turned into weekends at the lake, trips home together, and intentional nights out with family and friends. Jess must have fallen in love with Ryan’s impeccable fashion, including his fox shirts and camo crocs, because a year and a half later Ryan popped the question while watching a Lake Michigan sunset and Jess said YES.
