Our Story

We met via FB Dating. Yes, online dating. I had read his profile but was stuck on his picture. It was a mixture of Chipotle professional and Big Dell from the 305 (gold teeth and all). He had messaged me a couple of times but I was on the fence. Finally, on September 16, 2021 I responded to his requests by giving him my number. First text: Jamarel: I just realize who you were ohh wow wow like I’ve been texting you on the app and you never responded Kandyce: I legit have full days and no time for the app life Well, he was in Lake City so I figured what harm can come from a conversation. We talked for hours!!!! Off the back, we laid all our cards on the table and it was a take it or leave it situation. Eventually, we started falling asleep on Facetime and that became a habit to look up and one of us was asleep. I think he was just trying to prepare me for his snoring. It worked cause I am almost immune to “the bear”. After talking daily, we met up at Chipotle and our online chemistry transferred seamlessly as kindred spirits typically do. He is the Ying to my Yang and vice versa. On November 6, 2021 after a dinner date, Dell declared I was his woman and I didn’t protest. As fate would have it, his oldest daughter and son lived less than a mile from my house. He ended up spending more and more nights with me than at his daughter’s house but would leave before the kids were awake. One day, he came to visit and Khalil invited him to stay for dinner. Khalil interrogated like a protective son would. When he asked, “Mr. Dell, what do you like about my mother?” and he replied, “EVERYTHING” then went into specific detail as he looked me in the eye….. I was sold. Well, his response got him an invitation and permission to spend the night. Khalil wanted to see what it would feel like with you here in the mornings (his words). Needless to say, he passed his test. Kehlani soon after asked him to be her “new daddy” which touched his whole heart. He hasn’t attempted to replace either of their fathers and actually encourages the kids to call if their communication falls short. His love and protection extended to the kids immediately. Not only did I feel loved, protected and provided for as do they because he is a “doer” and action speaks louder than anything. In July of 2022, days before his birthday I discovered I was pregnant and our blended family of six became seven March 2023. I can’t say when we actually were engaged because he has asked so many times and his running line is, “I will marry you tomorrow if you want me to” July 2023, on vacation at a family reunion, the kids asked about us being married. They literally thought we were already married and when I said we will eventually… Khalil said, “Let’s do it now” Dell happily got on one knee in front of four of our kids and proposed again, professed his love and all the things. What that moment showed me is that my kids are just as invested in this man and process as I was. So, this ceremony is for them too!!! He loves me out loud and I do the same. We know we are blessed to have found one another. As much as he feels I saved his life, I feel the same. If you know then you know.
