How We Met

UVM 2012

We first met at a friend's apartment at UVM, when Tristen brought his book of DVD's for an afternoon watching movies - and neither of us thought much of it. A year later, we met again at an ugly sweater party at Kristina's apartment, just before we left for winter break. We texted the whole break. Tristen wished Kristina good luck on her job interview in the city and sent her a Miyazaki film (anime of course) to watch the night before to calm her nerves. We clicked, and as senior year started to wind down Tristen would be moving back to NH and Kristina to NY. So, we planned a trip together to Costa Rica . It was a super adventure, and we knew it could not be the last one.

The Proposal

12/31/2019

Every year we plan an adventure to celebrate the New Year. Last year, we skied hut to hut in the 100 Mile Wilderness of Maine and came back feeling so inspired that we decided to do the trip again this year. The first day the entire woods was a sheet of ice. We had to strap our skis onto our backs and walk with crampons to the first hut. That night, a snow storm rolled in and the next morning we woke up to 6 in of fresh snow. We had breakfast and took off for 10 miles of skiing to the next hut (our favorite one). At mile 4, we passed the Valley View side trail, and decided to stop for lunch. It was dead quiet and blizzarding and we hadn't seen anyone for hours. We pulled out our tuna sandwiches and Kristina took out her phone to snap some photos. When she turned around, Tristen was on one knee. Kristina started crying the happiest noooooo, noooo, nooooo possible, because she couldn't believe what was happening. Of course, that followed with the toss of a tuna sandwich and an excited "YES!". We skied off buzzing, and arrived at our cabin to dry off and play some cribbage next to the wood burning stove. That night, we celebrated with the owners of the cabin over champagne and lasagna. With no cell service, we celebrated quietly for the next few days, skiing and SMILING FROM EAR TO EAR... until we finally emerged from the woods to share the news with friends and family. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Vermont!

Our 2020 Wedding Story

our decision to get married in 2021

Our note to friends and family, pre- 2021 wedding ceremony: It has been one heck of a year leading up to this day! We know everyone has dealt with many cancellations, and unknowns and we appreciate the support of our friends and family in our tough decision to postpone our reception to next summer. One thing we did know regardless of all of the unknowns of the past few months was that we didn't want to wait another year to tie the knot. Life is full of the unexpected, and we knew we were ready to start this next adventure together. So, this year we will legally marry in a small ceremony held at a house in Vermont with our parents, siblings and grandparents by our sides. Through all of this we’ve been reminded that our lives are filled with family and friends that are SO important to us that there's been a lot of tears thinking about not getting to share the day directly with all those we had imagined sharing it with. But, we are sharing it in spirit and one year later, we’ll gather with ALL the people we love and celebrate our first year of marriage together and appreciate it in a way I don’t even think we can imagine quite yet 💕
