Our Story

A Cheap Dress with Some Bad Dancing

Half a Generation and many moons ago, Kamil and Alex fatefully met at a Sweet 16 in March 2007. Alex full of bright life-- like the heartbeat of the party, wearing an ugly green 100% polyester cheap piece and braces for days, and Kamil in some black trousers with a purple top looking like a lanky tower. After all, he was one of the only kids above 6 feet! On the dance floor Nelly, T-Pain and Soulja Boi were serenading us and yet there was Kamil, standing in the corner by the punch (non-alcoholic because we were good kids then mom!) quasi 2-steppin it up. Alex saw this stranger and asked him to dance which he adamantly stated he would/could not do—not much has changed, we know. Alas, when the young Alex was about to surrender this boy to his wishes of being a hermit, Sean Paul’s “Temperature” played. Kamil slowly evaded the dance floor and continued his two-steppin’ ways but did so aside his new “friend” who would not let him skulk in the corner. Nope, not when the fun was in the center! Sadly, “Temperature” and the respective “We Be Burnin” songs had faded into memory; Comparably, so did Kamil as he rejoined his familiar punchbowl corner away from that crazy brace-face who only knew the log-on log-off. Grateful, Kamil contentedly stayed away from the dance floor for the night as he has filled his annual quota of dancing and Alex had continued to jiggle jiggle-- not fold; She wiggle wiggled for sho’ till the party was over. What Kamil didn’t realize was that this wasn’t the last time he would meet that “crazy girl.” It was later that week that they had met again, but this time at a school lunch table where they proceeded to make pals with each-other and build a lifelong friendship built on fry stealing (her), pizza stealing (her) and biting (her). (Honestly after writing this, we’re considering institutionalizing both parties of this marriage, as Alex is obviously a clepto-lunatic, and Kamil must have deep seated issues if he thought Alex is suitable for his mental and albeit physical health!) Kamil had slowly become a confidant, a support system, and a realistic teenage dream of Edward Cullen without the sparkles or lack of deadness. He would protect her from the spoiling of rotten no-good-doers while feeding her, and Alex would challenge his idea of what reality could be with bacon, Sazón, and Coldplay. On October 17 of 2011, after 4 and a half years of friendship, Kam and Alex took a leap of faith and went on a “friendly-picnic” to catch up. (When we write picnic, what we mean is we went to key-food and bought chips and sat on the grass like hippies because who had the foresight.) The rest of the story is history, and not much has changed. Alex continues to encourage Kam to try new things, eat new foods, and go new places. Kamil still is the backbone of support both figuratively and literally for Alex. Helping her to walk again in troubled times, and, doing the laundry and cat litter so she doesn’t have to. Over ten years of cuddles, snuggles, illegal apartments, that kind of struggle love of eating a cup of noodle every day to live, and, sleeping on a single twin sized mattress (seriously how TF did we do that?!?), to real apartment living with a crackhead peeing in front of their door daily—they have made it. They are now turning the page for a new chapter united in all ways.

His Proposal

Covid, a Fire, and maybe Crack.

On January 15th 2021, Kamil and Alex were recovering from a nasty bout of Ms. Rona. It was -2 degrees outside but it was the first day they were allowed outside of quarantine! Kamil insisted they should get dinner with 2 friends who also had recently recovered from the coco. Alex had an inkling something was afoot when her best friend said they should get dressed up for hotpot. Its hotpot-- its soup that stains-- why would she want to dress up for that! An hour later Alex received a text that their friends were running late, that their friend's parent house had caught fire! It gave Kam the "perfect" chance for timing! He rushed Alex out of the house with the plan that they are going for a walk! (remember recovering from Rona and its also -2 out!) He parked the car in front of forest park, and for those who don't know forest park is surrounded by East NY (bad), Cypress Hills (bad) and Glendale (good). Kam parked in-between East NY and Cypress Hills. Alex was horrified. Who did Kam think he was! He was for sure trying to off her using mother nature and the high crime lords of Brooklyn. She refused to get out of the car! She was still tired and it was too cold; but that pesky kam persisted. He had her get out of the park and walk up the steps to the very deserted park in almost complete darkness as it was 8pm in the wintry January. To this day, Alex swears she saw 2 drug deals happen on the corner of the park. Kam and Alex walked for approximately 5 minutes and then they stopped to look at the peaceful skyline. There were stars visible and it was something they had wanted to capture-- thus the selfie position had come out of hiding. In the view finder of her phone alex saw something sparkly behind her head and turned around. Kam was standing behind her, holding a box with a ring up. His words were "Im not going to make you wait any longer, will you marry me?" Of course she said yes! and they quickly rushed out of the park onward to dinner, avoiding all crime lords effectively. And that is how they became engaged.
