Some love stories begin with fate… ours began with a very persistent mutual friend. For years, Rebecca Packer insisted John and Kami needed to meet. Rebecca worked with John at U.S. Bank and also happens to be the sister-in-law of Kami's bridesmaid, Danielle, so she had connections on both sides. She was convinced from the very beginning that we would be a perfect match. The only problem? It took us about six years to finally meet. Somehow, we kept almost crossing paths. Same parties, same circles, wrong timing, wrong place, wrong season of life. Until one day, John finally reached out to Kami and asked her to grab a drink. Wanting to seem sophisticated, Kami suggested meeting at a whiskey bar where they could sip on a nice old fashioned, and casually asked if he liked whiskey. Meanwhile, John (not exactly a whiskey drinker) was wondering what kind of girl Rebecca had set him up with. In his mind, “whiskey” meant shooting Jack Daniels and didn’t yet know the difference between Jack and a nice single malt. Suddenly, Kami seemed far more intimidating than expected. We agreed to meet for one drink, figuring we’d politely call it a night if there wasn’t a spark. Instead, one drink turned into five hours of nonstop conversation, laughter, and the easiest connection either of us had ever felt. We closed down the bar that night, and opened the door to everything that followed. Since then, we’ve built a love rooted in laughter, trust, and unwavering support. We’ve gotten to know each other’s families, confided in the hard chapters of life, and learned that whatever comes our way, we are strongest together. We admire how different we can be in so many ways, yet how naturally we balance one another through shared values and a deep connection. It didn’t take long to realize we had found our person. For the first time, we truly understood what people mean when they say, “when you know, you know.” And we know.
