Kalynn and Mitch met in Vermillion, South Dakota, when Mitch was in town for a golf tournament and stopped by Leo’s Sports Bar. That same night, Kalynn was out with friends and happened to sit across the bar from him. She struck up a conversation and quickly learned it was his first time in Vermillion. What started as a simple conversation quickly turned into a full tour of Vermillion, as Kalynn decided he needed to experience it the right way—including a stop at Char Bar (if you know, you know). From that night on, they spent nearly every weekend together, and Vermillion became a place filled with special memories. Their first official date was at Brickhouse, followed by a night of karaoke at OLC—and a margarita story they still laugh about. The night before, Kalynn had made spicy margaritas with jalapeños and let them sit overnight. When Mitch came over while she was getting ready, she offered him one without trying it first. He drank the entire thing without saying a word. When Kalynn finally took a sip, she could barely handle it—it was basically straight jalapeño juice. And if you know them, that says a lot, because Kalynn handles spice much better than Mitch—but on the first date, he wasn’t about to say anything and risk hurting her feelings. After that first date, Kalynn sent Mitch the song “Next Thing You Know” after hearing the line “you meet a girl at the bar, next thing you know…” Mitch asked if she had listened to the rest of the song, and she said no. When she finally did, she remembers thinking she might have scared him off—it quickly goes from meeting at a bar to getting engaged, moving in together, and having a baby. Looking back now, it’s a little too accurate in the best way possible. A couple of years later, Kalynn moved to Denison, where they purchased a fixer-upper home. Mitch proposed there at home, and shortly after, they were blessed with their baby girl, Maeve. Since then, life has only gotten sweeter—Kalynn has officially mastered the spicy margarita, and Mitch has happily claimed margaritas as one of his favorite drinks… though he still approaches the spicy ones with caution. Golf has also remained a constant in their story, from Mitch’s tournament weekends to rounds together whenever they can, now even getting to bring Maeve along for the ride. Now, they can’t wait to celebrate their love story with all of their family and friends!
