Greetings to Greg's side from Kalyn: As I've yet to meet most of you, I'm happy to introduce myself here! The top two things you should know about me are my love of history and of my heritage. I'm currently a Master's student in the department of history at Fordham University with a focus in late medieval and early modern Scotland and the Digital Collections Manager for the NYG&B. I'm a member of one of the local DAR chapters, I'm the Secretary for the New York Caledonian Club, and I volunteer for the New York City Tartan Day Parade... I'm sure you're noticing a pattern, here. I'm passionate about my family heritage and Scottish cultural history, and I'd say that you could find a bit of tartan or drone of a bagpipe in most of my activities. Fun fact: We happily discovered that Greg's Scottish connection is even more recent than mine, so the tartan you'll see throughout our website (and wedding) is actually Greg's MacDonald tartan (mine is MacGregor). Both of us share a love of Scottish and Irish traditional music, but Greg should definitely take the lead on music... Greg's turn: Well, Kalyn might be all about the Scots, but I have also studied the music of Indian, Middle-Eastern, West African, Caribbean, Latin, Brazilian, AND American folk cultures! Oh, and American Classical, Jazz, and Rock too. In fact, one might say that I'm a Master Percussionist (CalArts 2010). It was with my MFA in Percussion Performance, along with my 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and aptitude for chess, that prepared me to become a teaching artist and Community School Director with The Leadership Program for the past 11 years. We serve students, families, and staff at underprivileged public schools in NYC. One thing about me that everyone knows is my love for JRR Tolkien. I write in elvish (Tengwar) daily, own a gold One Ring, read The Silmarillion in high school, gave my son a high-elven middle name -- Lindon (which means "of music"), and could give Stephen Colbert a run for his money. p.s. ask me about sporks
