We met through our roommates at Biola University in 2015. Daniel lived with 7 of his closest college friends and I had just moved into a house with my best friend and 5 girls we had never met before. The day I officially moved into my house one of my roommates let me know she was having a dinner party with a neighboring "guys house" down the road. When I came back from the grocery store that night I walked in to a casual dinner gathering including several of my new roommates and Daniel's house. We never had a formal introduction but Daniel's first sentence to me was "Excuse me, would you mind moving? I need to get to the trash can."
After we graduated Biola University, I moved to Phoenix and started teaching First Grade while Daniel stayed in Southern California and started his career as a Commercial Appraisal Analyst. We both would randomly text each other or use social media as a platform to keep up with each others lives throughout the years. We met up once in December of 2018 to catch up in person and ended up having a really good time. We had both planned to meet up again a few months later but it just never worked. Fast forward 2 and a half years later... In March 2021, I was at work when I noticed I had an unread Instagram message. I opened my phone and saw a message from Daniel (aka @drazz_5, now known as @drazz_2.0). We both don't remember exactly what the message was but after several sarcastic comments our conversation quickly developed to Daniel telling me he was coming out to Phoenix in a few weeks to visit his friend who had just moved there and he was thinking maybe him and I could meet up for dinner. Daniel and I continued talking and we met for dinner on April 10, 2021 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Daniel planned a day trip for us to Catalina Island on October 16, 2022. He had told me he wanted to take me to Catalina as a late anniversary gift. Once we got to the island, Daniel rented a golf cart for us to explore in. We kept stopping at beautiful look out points and there was one lookout point in particular where Daniel brought me and I thought in that moment he was going to propose. He found us a nice spot to sit and I totally thought he was going to whip out a ring and ask right then and there but there was a family lingering by us. We ended up going back to the golf cart with no ring on my finger. After our golf cart tour, we walked over to the beach club. Daniel checked us into the beach club and the receptionist brought us to a private cabana overlooking the ocean and part of the island. We talked in the cabana for about an hour until Daniel decided he wanted to go change into his bathing suit to take that dip in the ocean. I laughed at him because it was so cold and rainy. I truly couldn't believe he was planning on jumping into the ocean during a storm. To my surprise, when he returned 20 minutes later he had not yet changed. I asked him what he had been doing for 20 minutes and he quickly came up with a story that he had gotten lost on his way to the restroom, found the restroom only to discover there was a line, and then sit there for a few moment to debate whether or not he wanted to change and jump in to the ocean. I was highly skeptical of his story but just laughed and started talking about the menu and what we wanted for lunch. Daniel sat down next to me on the couch and asked me if I wanted to take a self timed photo to remember our trip (I had been taking self timed photos all day so I didn't think anything of this). We set up the camera and took a picture. He then turned to me and handed me a little notebook. I read through the notebook with Daniel next to me. It was filled with memories, pictures, and stories of our relationship (both our past friendship and present dating relationship). The last sentence of notebook read, "Will you marry me?"
