Kali’s Version: I was waiting tables at Chuy’s as my part-time job in college at Texas A&M. I had just started this job, and I was trying to make new friends. I was really interested in the GOT spin-off show “House of Dragons,” and I would ask my friends at work if they saw the new episode. This was a weekly discussion on our Thursday night shifts. One week, during our debrief conversation on the latest episode, I saw this super cute guy who seemed to be interested in our discussion. I invited him into the conversation by asking if he watched it too, and he looked excited when I asked him. I still don’t know if that’s because he wanted to talk about the show or if he was excited to talk to me… I think it was a mix of both. We would work on the same Thursday night shifts, and most times, I made it a priority to watch the new episode before going to work so that I would have a good excuse to make conversation with my new work crush. One week, I had an exam, and I did not watch the new episode. I wondered if Trae and I would talk about something else… NOPE! He asked if I watched the new episode. I explained why I couldn’t this week, and that was the abrupt end to our conversation, lol. If you know Trae, he is a total sweetheart, just not a man of many words. It was super clear to me that he was interested, but he just needed a nudge or two, or five. Knowing him (and all of his friends) now, he just did not know how to talk to women, and to me, that was a huge green flag. He also mentioned that he had a corgi, which was an even bigger green flag. We exchanged phone numbers at our Chuy’s Halloween party, once we had a little liquid courage to shake off the nerves. We’ve been together ever since! We spent our whole Senior year at Texas A&M together, and now we’re planning our wedding while long-distance. We are elated for this next chapter of our lives, and we can’t wait to get to celebrate it with all of you SO soon! Trae’s Version: Kali caught my eye pretty much immediately when I started back at Chuy’s in 2022. Waiting tables was a job I dreaded most days, so when I went in on the first Thursday back from summer break, I had no idea what was waiting for me. Right away, I approached her, grabbed her face to look into her eyes, and told her that she would be my wife someday. She fell for me instantly, I could tell. I actually did not talk to her for several shifts because I was scared. Eventually, I caught on that she was watching a show that I was also really into, and I started chiming in on her conversations. Sadly, the show eventually ended, and I had no idea how to talk to her without my go-to icebreaker. Luckily for me, she had caught on that I had a crush on her, so she would give me plenty of opportunities to start or continue conversations. Looking back, it's crazy to think that at one point, I didn’t know what to say to her to start a conversation. Now I can just look in her general direction and boom, she says a thousand words. Fortunately, every Thursday for a semester is enough time to build up the confidence to ask for her number and eventually ask her out. Both of which took a while, so props to Kali for having patience. We are looking forward to having all of our friends and family come together to celebrate us!
