How We Met

It was the summer of 2013, we were both working at Fins a local dining establishment known for their "Tropicali cuisine". We still aren’t sure if it was the reggae music or their slogan of “it’s always summer on the inside” but there was something in the air. We shared a few laughs and flirtatious moments but didn’t really connect until our first date when we went to see the movie Don John. We actually didn't even stay for half the movie (if you’ve seen Don Jon you'll understand why... If you haven’t seen it, you probably don't have to). Fortunately this didn’t dull the spark, to make up for it we went to Sandy Hook to watch the sunset! Not long after that we were making Christmas cookies with Guy's family and attending the infamous Cinelli Christmas Eve Party. It was there that things were made officially “official” (yes, Facebook official too).

How Guy Proposed

Part i

It was February of 2020, at this point in time we had been together for over 6 years! On Valentine’s Day Guy surprised me with a trip to Puerto Rico (shoutout to Guy winning his Fantasy Football League!)... Puerto Rico is one of our favorite places and Guy told me there was a surprise scheduled for Saturday night. We had a gorgeous Air BnB with a view of the city and the ocean. We ventured out to the beach on Friday and Saturday, soaking up as much sun as we could (my sunburn story will have to be shared at another time- Guy would love to tell you all about it). To keep the surprise, Guy made little comments to try to mislead me and I was totally convinced we were going on a boat ride. Saturday afternoon came and I could tell Guy was acting more nervous then usual, I didn't understand why as I was convinced we were just going on a boat. We were on a strict schedule and had to leave at 4:45pm. This all made sense to me because it was perfect timing for a sunset cruise. We get in the Uber and head into Old San Juan but we hit some traffic on the way. Now I start panicking because we are going to be late and I didn't want this boat to leave without us! Finally we start walking towards our “destination”. Guy still hasn’t alluded to what we were doing or where we were going but said there was a really cool spot he found that he thinks I would like (continued at part ii)

How Guy Proposed

Part ii

We then start walking up to Castillo San Felipe del Morro. The sun is just starting to set, the temperature is a perfect 77 degrees with a breeze coming off the ocean. The grass is green and lush leading up to this gorgeous Castle while there are families flying kites and kids laughing kicking around soccer balls. It's almost as if a Microsoft computer background had come to life. That moment was so perfect I took a photo to remember it, little did I know how perfect the night was going to continue to be! As we get to Castillo San Felipe del Morro Guy is both leading me but also won’t let me walk behind him (the ring box was in his back pocket!). Eventually we arrive at a beautiful opening with another perfect green lawn leading to a wall with the ocean waves crashing below. As I was taking it all in I look over at Guy and he has tears in his eyes. Before he says anything I realize what is happening! I think I blacked out because I don’t remember exactly what he said (but it was thoughtful and beautiful) and before I knew it he was down on one knee with the most gorgeous ring asking me to marry him! Of course I said yes, a thousand times yes! Then as if that wasn’t perfect enough I turn around and see a photographer, our photographer! Not only did he capture that special moment but he also took photos of us all through out Castillo San Felipe del Morro while the sunset in the background.
