We met online. As many do these days. After weeks of deep conversations, it was the mutual fascination in each of our individual book collections that made it clear. Love at first nerd.
Hello, Eli here! I had planned the proposal a few months in advance. We went to the Art Museum, where we had previously had one of our first dates. I was extremely nervous she would catch on. So nervous, in fact, that when faced with a coat rack at the entrance, I froze, contemplating if I should move the box to my pants pocket (I had a box made to match the size of my wallet) or not, and Kali had to pay for the visit because I had zoned out. I kept my heavy coat on the whole way through to keep the ring hidden, going to the bathroom once or twice to make sure the box worked (it presented by popping up). Then pressured Kali into going outside in 30° weather to the greenhouses. She got annoyed and gave in. When we got to the greenhouse, I was looking for a place to kneel as they had just watered the plants so there were puddles everywhere. I turned to her and told her how much I loved her. She said sarcastically, "You keep telling me that..." Not wanting to miss the PERFECT line, I said the smoothest thing I think I've ever said: "Well, why don't I show you." and got down on my knee and opened the box. I had a whole speech prepared but it went flying out the window the second I kneeled. We both started tearing up as I asked her to marry me. Best. Day. Ever.
