Blue Hole Falls, Elizabethton, TN 37643. It's an hour from Mountain City, Tenn This is another waterfall that is easy to find. Take Highway 91 east (NE really) out of Elizabethton, TN for about 10 miles. Turn left onto Panhandle Rd at the big, brown national forest sign for "Blue Hole". After the road turns to gravel look for a small parking area on the left side of the road. To get to the overlook, take the small trail that starts just to the left of the parking area near the road. It will twist through the trees and go down about 30 feet or so to the overlook. Be very careful. To go to the plunge pool, go back to the parking area and follow the 4-wheeler trail for 20 feet or so and take the trail that goes down the hill to the left. You can either follow the trail down the steps to the bottom, take the first right to the upper falls, or look for another side trail about 1/2 way down that goes to the middle grotto falls. The entire area is very compact .29 miles
Twisting Falls (also known as Compression Falls or Twisted Falls) is found in the Elk Mills area of Carter County near the border with North Carolina. As you can see this waterfall is a popular place to be in the summer. It's listed as 30 feet high, but that seems to be a low estimate. Of course it made me nervous watching the young people climb the rope to the right and then either slide down or jump off the falls. Above the main falls, they were also jumping into another large pool from a high perch above. Obviously all of this is very dangerous and not something I recommend...that said, this waterfall is stunning in its beauty -- open to the sun, with the falls large enough to send out a constant spray of mist, perfect on a hot summer day. But getting there is pretty tough. It's not a long hike (about 3/4 mile) but it is the steepest 'trail' I've seen in this area.
https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/cherokee/recarea/?recid=34942 29 minutes from Mountain City, Tenn Gentry Creek Falls is a 4.5 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Do not go there in hiking shoes, you need river shoes. Countless river crossings in a nice jungle-like setting. The waterfall is pretty, but you will get wet on the way!
