Our Love Story - Bride's Version

Summer 2017: I had just returned from an amazing trip to Israel. While on the trip, I prayed constantly for God to heal my heart and deliver me from past hurt, in preparation for a love that was heaven sent. After arriving back in the states, I felt ready to give love another try. I prayed for God to bless me with a man that would love me unconditionally, as Christ loved the church. I didn't have much luck meeting guys, in my day to day life, so I decided to give online dating another try. I had tried Match, Bumble, Plenty of Fish, and Zoosk, in years prior but had no luck. So, I decided to I create a profile on Black People Meet for a 30 day trial. As I neared the end of my 30 days, I began to lose hope. I had made up my mind to end my subscription and just wait for "my guy" to literally show up at my door. Well, he didn't show up at my door, he showed up in my "inbox." I saw a message from a guy named Robinson. I read his profile and was really impressed; however, there was one problem. He lived in Florida. How in the world did a guy from Florida end up finding me, when I had my location set for 50 miles outside of Woodbridge, VA? It made no sense. I was slow to respond because I just knew there was no way that I would ever move to Florida. (Ha!) Eventually, I decided to respond to his message. We chatted for a few days, before he suggested we take the conversation offline. After about a month of conversing, Robinson decided to book a flight to Virginia so that we could meet for the first time. About a week before he came to visit, while talking on FaceTime, Robinson began singing "Love" by Musiq Soulchild. It was at that moment that I knew I was in love with him and that he was going to be my husband. Fast forward to June 2019, after dating for about 18 months, Robinson asked me the question I had been waiting on, since the day I fell in love. I am so grateful that God saw fit to bring us together. I truly believe that our union has been ordained by God!

Our Love Story - Groom's Version

The years leading up to summer of 2017 was quite the journey. It was filled with self-discovery and healing because I felt like I lost my identity. I have always been an advocate of self-love being the best love so it was time to put those words into practice. I started working out again, going to church, and even found a musical outlet. I found me again but still was lacking in the love department. Mid 2017, I lost a bet with a friend and had to make a profile on a dating website of their choosing. The site was called BlackPeopleMeet.com (hilarious I know). I’ve had my fair encounters with dating sites/apps such as Tinder and Plenty of Fish to name a few but none rendered anything lasting. So, I sucked it up and paid for a three-month membership (they had a sale going on) never really expecting to find anything of value. In July I received an email asking if I wanted to renew my membership since my account was going to expire the following month. To be honest I had forgotten about the website, so I figured I’d give it a try…and try I did. My initial experience was discouraging and it reaffirmed my prior experience with dating apps…SOME folks are unable to hold any kind of conversation. Inevitably my search radius went from the Tampa Bay area, to Florida, to all of the United States. Someone on this site knows how to carry a conversation…someone. Insert Kaletah Flowers of Virginia. I’ve never been to Virginia but here is this beautiful woman with a gorgeous smile appearing at the top of my search results, Virginia is looking pretty promising. After reading through her profile and checking out her photos, I was impressed! Educated, God fearing, conservative photos, and did I mention beautiful? I dropped her a line praying she would write back. Not only did she write back, she was able to hold a conversation. It was a wrap for me folks! I knew I had found a diamond, but I waited a week before asking her for her number as a gentlemen should and here we are.
