We essentially grew up next to one another, within blocks of each other's houses. Somehow, our lives did not collide until the Summer of 2016. There were only a couple of things to do in Olney: drive around and sit at the new "p lot." Our friends were both out on this summer night cruising, and for some reason, our cars decided to meet up at the high school parking lot. We had an instant, strong connection. Sparks flew and the connection continued to grow throughout the summer. Sadly, at the end of the summer, Blake went back to Champaign, and Kalei began her first semester in Joplin. We stayed in touch for the three years we were apart. Both of us wondering what could have been if we had given our sparks a chance. FINALLY June 18th, 2019 we decided to become official and to grow our soulmate kind of connection. <3
Blake eloquently pulled off the proposal after a weekend in Missouri attending some of Kalei's friends' weddings! Earlier in 2020, we visited a beautiful botanical garden in Janesville, WI. We talked about how much we loved the experience and that we wanted to try and visit one closer to home! On our way to the Springfield/Joplin area, Blake threw out the idea to visit the botanical garden in St. Louis on our way home. Blake had been eagerly planning the proposal, but Kalei had no idea! On the way home, Blake pretended to buy the tickets for the garden (they had already been purchased much in advance) and we began our trek back toward St. Louis. Our road trip was silly and full of giggles. At one point, Kalei even reached into the pocket of Blake's vest saying, "Is there a ring in here?!" There was, but by the grace of God, it was in the other pocket. Gracefully, Blake replied "Haha. No, there is not." Finally, we arrived to the botanical garden. It was beautiful! We skipped and laughed our way to the back of the garden. Blake led Kalei to a clearing overlooking a pond. He smirked and said "I lied, I do have a ring." And finally, he got down on one knee and proposed the biggest, best question Kalei has ever been asked. And of course, she said yes.
