Sikh Wedding Etiquette

1. Dress modestly, women are to not show too much skin, low cut tops or short skirts and dresses should be avoided unless leggings worn underneath. 2. Shoes must be removed once entered into the Gurdwara (Sikh temple), there will be a designated room or spot to place your shoes for safe keeping. 3. A head covering must always be worn, not only once entered into the Gurdwara (Sikh temple) but also on its premises. Women may bring a shawl or scarf to utilize as their head covering, a bandana will also be provided for men and all others who do not bring their own head covering. 4. You may see many of the guests walk up to the front of the temple hall and bow their heads in front of the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh religious text of Holy Scriptures. For non-Sikh guests, this is not mandatory. 5. Men and women typically sit on opposite sides of the temple hall, close family members or the bridal party make up the first few rows.
