Kalani and Serigne met in 2018 at Cal State LA, a university that was not either of their first choices but one God clearly had planned. Kalani had just returned from her father and stepmother’s wedding and arrived on campus a few days after move-in when she first saw Serigne, and the connection was instant. Getting to know each other felt easy and familiar, and their first hangout turned into nearly four hours of conversation on the corner street by the dorms. Although life circumstances led them to intentionally remain close friends, there was always a shared intuition that their story was not finished. In 2021, after a late-night phone call, Kalani prayed and asked God if Serigne was her husband, while miles away in Memphis, Serigne’s roommate was convinced Kalani was meant to be his wife. A few months later, Kalani invited Serigne to a party and served him a full plate of food, and in that moment he knew. From then on, Serigne intentionally led a Christ-centered relationship rooted in purpose, faith, and the promise of forever. On December 25, 2025, Serigne proposed to Kalani, honoring the prayers that brought them together, and she said yes, telling him, “I prayed for you, I always knew I’d marry you".
