Some love stories start with fireworks—ours started with a spark and a serious case of bad timing. We first met one night years ago through mutual friends. There was a moment—a connection—but life had other plans, and somehow, despite having many of the same people in our circles, we didn’t cross paths again for nearly five years. Then, one random night, fate gave us a second chance. We bumped into each other through mutual friends again and ended up dancing the night away. Afterward, we grabbed late-night food at a 24-hour diner and talked until the sun came up. From that moment on, everything felt different—in the best way. A year later, Kal moved in with Kate and her two dogs. Two days after that, the world shut down. Quarantine life in a tiny home and nowhere to go was definitely a test—but it made us stronger. We learned each other’s quirks, leaned into laughter when things got tough, and realized that if we could get through a lockdown together, we could get through just about anything. Soon after, we wanted to challenge ourselves again and we bought a fixer-upper and poured our hearts into making it a home. There’s still wallpaper under our fingernails and stories behind every creaky floorboard. And now, our greatest adventure yet—our daughter, Cece—fills that home with more joy and love than we ever imagined. We’ve danced through chance encounters, a pandemic, home renovations, and parenthood—and now, we’re so excited to celebrate this next chapter with all the people who have been part of our journey.
