Kalan & Ashley’s Love Story

Kalan and I went on our very first date on March 22, 2019, but our story began long before then. We went to high school together, lived in the same neighborhood and rode the same bus to school everyday. However this was not “Love at First Sight” but more like “he thinks he’s so cute” and “she is so stuck up” LOL. It’s not the sweetest beginning but as teenagers we had no idea that the perfect person was so close. We knew nothing about each other, only what we could see on the outside and how we interacted with others. We were just two misunderstood people who didn’t know what the future held. Fast forward to 2019 when Kalan sent me a random message asking me out on a date. I thought it was a joke and it took me a day to respond. Given our past history of having this unspoken dislike for each other I was quite skeptical, but interested to see how he’s been all those years. March 22, 2019 comes around and we went on our first date to Redstone at the National Harbor. We sat and talked for hours catching up and learning each other again. It was refreshing and the conversation was easy. There were no awkward moments of silence and no rush to leave the table. We talked about everything and it was clear that we needed another date. From then on we learned that we shared common interest and wanted the same things for our future. Little did we know that the road ahead would involve COVID. Our relationship survived when the world was shut down and all we had was board games and each other. We binged watched many shows and our favorite was Survivor. We managed to purchase our first home in 2020 in the midst of COVID. This was such a great accomplishment that we both had on our separate list but chose to take on together. On March 22, 2022 we started our day as normal with the expectation to have dinner later that evening to celebrate our anniversary, but the day became even more special. When Kalan came home from work I was in my office trying to get through the day. I started complaining about work and how I couldn’t wait to clock out. Before I could finish my vent session he dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring. I was so in shock that all I could hear him say was “Ashley Michele Johnson”. From that point on I heard nothing else. I cried tears of joy because this was the moment I had been waiting for. Kalan always talked about making me his wife, so while I wasn’t shocked it still caught me off guard and I could not have been more happy. So now here we are, two people that didn’t speak to each other on the bus planning to build a family and spend the rest of our lives together. Kalan and I will be getting married in Montego Bay, Jamaica on April 27, 2023 at the Secrets St. James resort. Following the official ceremony our parents will be hosting a local reception to celebrate our union with our family and friends that could not make the wedding in Jamaica. We are really looking forward to starting this new chapter and joining our families together. #onelove #jamaicametaybron
