Wedding Day

We tied the knot in a small ceremony on our property in Alpena, MI on September 10th, 2022. We can't wait to celebrate with all of our family and friends in Detroit in June!

How we met

Steve and Kait met at Rochester Mills Beer Company, where Steve was beginning his career as an assistant brewer, and where Kait was serving/bartending while starting her career as an interior designer. Their paths had hardly crossed, except during mock brewery tours in which servers were required to demonstrate their knowledge of the brewing process. One evening, a draft line ruptured and was flooding the basement. Steve was called in to resolve the issue. Very much bothered to be summoned back to work, Steve thought to himself that maybe he would at least run into that one server who had caught his eye during the last round of practice tours. As fate would have it, Steve walked into the kitchen to find the staff giving Kait a hard time about being single. The sous chef was so bold as to suggest that she and the recently-single Steve should get together. Steve quietly accepted the freebie he'd just been handed. Kait shrugged it off until a few weeks later, when Steve came to celebrate with friends who had just completed their degrees. Kait was excited to see Steve and his group, seated on the patio where she was working a double. When Kait took her break, Steve's friends encouraged him to make his way out back so he could "accidentally" run into her. They talked a bit about beer and brewing. Steve slyly suggested he was the master of brewing and could teach her his ways. He gave her his number. Soon after, they brewed an awful kiwi sour ale that tasted basically nothing like kiwi and Kait pretended she would not marry him someday (even though she knew she would). They never brewed together again. They did, however, spend many evenings out on the town or hosting in their backyard, enjoying good food and beer with friends, traveling/experiencing other cultures and relishing the solitude of a night in together. The past seven years (and especially the past two) have been a trek of challenges, but they've come out the other side grateful to have each other.
