Spencer and Kaitlyn’s story is the kind of story that makes a person believe in soulmates. For much of their early lives, Spencer and Kaitlyn lived nearby each other, often coming close, but never crossing paths. Looking back, it almost feels impossible their lives didn’t intersect sooner. Kaitlyn was born in South Dakota and later moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, which is where she was raised until high school. During her childhood, she often visited Alexandria, Minnesota, a mere 20 minutes from Spencer’s home. From Grand Forks, Kaitlyn moved to Oklahoma for high school and college, before eventually finding her way to Kentucky for medical school. Spencer, always taking his sweet time, found himself living in Grand Forks for college only after Kaitlyn had left (and thus never meeting her), before eventually moving to Duluth and then Minneapolis for his own medical school journey. Fate took a turn in the right direction when Spencer matched into Nashville for residency, only an hour from where Kaitlyn was going to medical school. Later that year, they met for the first time when Kaitlyn interviewed for the same residency program as Spencer, and Spencer gave her a perfect score on her interview score sheet. She was clearly the most qualified candidate. Kaitlyn actually completely forgot they had ever met until Spencer reminded her. It was at work where their friendship first began to blossom. After starting a rotation together, Spencer did his best to ‘play it cool’, a strategy which included inviting himself to Oktoberfest with Kaitlyn. At the end of the night, Spencer made it a point to walk Kaitlyn back to her car, a walk that lasted hours into the night as Spencer kept **accidentally** getting lost. Spencer was so excited when he got home that night that he couldn’t help but call his wingman-and now best man- Devon Baggenstoss to tell him how extraordinarily out of his league Kaitlyn is. Once they hung out outside of work, Kaitlyn and Spencer knew what they had was more than a friendship. Their time together in Nashville allowed their relationship and love for one another to grow exponentially over the next year until Spencer was ready to take their relationship to an even higher level. He was ready to propose! On May 18, 2025, Spencer dropped to one knee at Edwin Warner Park in Nashville while practicing AKC dog tracking. He had asked their close friends, KC Delfino and Marshall Levinson, to help him set up a dog track that ended with their dog Loki finding the ring. Overcome with emotions and looking down on Spencer on one knee holding the ring box backwards, Kaitlyn said yes. The rest, as they say, is history. We are endlessly grateful for the winding roads that led us to each other and so excited to begin this next chapter of our lives together. We cannot wait to celebrate our` love story with so many treasured friends and family.
