If you’ve ever asked either of us how we met, you probably know the odds of our paths crossing were next to none. And you’ve probably heard us say we had very little to do with it—that it was completely orchestrated by the good Lord above. If you haven’t asked but are curious, you’re in the right place. Scott found his way into farming during his time as a Texas Tech Red Raider and stuck around the area, eventually building a life (and plenty of fields) in Whitharral, Texas. Meanwhile, I (Kaitlyn) was deep into the books at Texas A&M in College Station, wrapping up a long (very, very long) four years in veterinary school—about seven hours away. During my clinical rotations, I was blessed with the chance to escape the humidity of College Station for a month and work in Canyon, Texas. Knowing I wanted to move to the Panhandle after graduation, I strategically changed my online dating location to that area (shoutout to my sister-in-law for the tip!). That’s when Scott and I matched on Hinge. After talking on the phone for a while, Scott seemed like a genuinely great guy—definitely not one of the horror stories you hear about. I asked when we could meet up, and in true farmer fashion, he said he was busy harvesting and couldn’t take me on a traditional date... but he did have a buddy seat open in his combine. So yes, our first date was in a combine. I sat in that buddy seat for over five hours while Scott harvested milo and talked my ear off. And honestly? It felt right from the start. We clicked instantly. We made it through a tough seven months of long-distance dating while I finished school back in College Station, and every mile, call, and visit was worth it. Looking back, the window for us to meet was incredibly small—but God didn’t need much time to work His plan.
