It all began when we hopped on a bus to a women's and men's soccer tournament across the Canadian border and found ourselves sitting next to each other on the journey north. Roland asked an odd question that he prefaced with, "You probably have never been asked this before, but do you want to thumb wrestle?” After several rounds of smiles, laughs and competitive banter, it all ultimately lead to hand-holding. Our lives where forever changed over a simple, youthful and of course competitive game of thumb wrestling.
We had spent the month of November traveling abroad in Scotland and England, enjoying all of Europes ventures through history, soccer, and culture. We were on the last leg of our trip, in the small coastal town of Brighton, England. We had toured Brighton all day and stumbled across an intimate pub early on in the day and decided this is where we would spend our Thanksgiving abroad that evening. After spending the day walking through The Lanes, along the coast and ultimately back into the town center where we had spotted our pub, we sat down for our Thanksgiving dinner, just us two in the entire restaurant. We had a casual dinner and afterward celebrated with a bottle of Prosecco. We toasted to our families, loved ones, reminisced of our travels together and ulitimately drank to each other. After we sipped on our Prosecco together, Roland had one more surprise, and got down on one knee and asked Kaitlyn to be his wife!
