Literally. We were in the same chemistry class and Pat was smitten with the cute girl who sat two rows behind him. Kaitlyn was creeped out by the weird kid who kept turning around to look at her. After getting to know each other a little at a study group, Pat asked a mutual friend for Kaitlyn's number. Over the next few months, we got to know each other better. Kaitlyn discovered Pat's nerdy past and Pat discovered Kaitlyn's refusal to share Chinese food with a guy she'd only known for a couple weeks. Despite the initial hesitancy, we knew that we had something special and at the end of freshman year, we made plans to meet up over the summer and the rest is history!

Pat's view: We were in Stowe, Vermont for our yearly summer trip. The big difference this year, was the ring in my bag. I chose a hiking trail above the village for the big moment. Unfortunately, intermittent rain all day. Fine, I’d just be checking the weather during the day looking for a gap in the rain. Well, I would have been if the cheese shop we were in had any reception. So, picture me, nervously walk-running around this cheese shop, phone aloft praying to pick up a bar or two so I could check the weather. It was not a relaxing environment. Luckily, I was getting engaged to someone who really loves her cheese and was largely unaware of my antics. Finally getting cell service, I found a small window to get to the trail before the rain started up again. I then proceeded to suggest/demand we leave immediately to check out this hiking trail I had just happened across. You know, normal vacation behavior. But all’s well that ends well. We got to the trail in time, found the overlook and I popped the question just as the rain started up again. Kaitlyn's view: So here I am, in the middle of all my cheese sampling, and Pat wants to go for a hike. He said we would have to leave immediately to avoid the rain. As sad as I was to leave my cheese behind, I was excited to see this hiking trail that Pat found, which he said had a beautiful view of the mountains! As soon as we started driving, I couldn't help but notice that Pat was acting strange. He was dead quiet and barely said a word! I started to get nervous and thoughts rushed through my head-one being, "did Pat drive me all the way up to Vermont to break up with me? After 6 years of dating?" After parking and semi-silently walking up the hill, we got to a big clearing, Pat got down on one knee, and popped the question! I was so surprised (and relieved this was why he was acting strange) that I started to cry. Just then, the sky opened up and it started pouring as I answered the easiest question I've ever been asked!
