Our love story began spring of 2022 while completing our Master of Public Administration program at the University of Georgia. We were taking a class in Public Research Methods and assigned to a group project. One evening, while our group mates stepped away during a meeting, we found ourselves talking about historical figures we would love to meet, discovering a shared love for history. Before we could really get into it, our group mates returned, and our conversation was cut short. Needless to say, Oreyane found himself on a new mission. A week or two had passed, and Oreyane couldn’t figure out how to get back to our conversation. Fortunately for him, his opportunity soon emerged. One evening while leaving class, Kaitlyn was dressed for an interview she had earlier that day and shared with Oreyane that she would receive a decision about it later that week. Well, Oreyane committed the date to memory so he could circle back to find out the news. When the day came, Oreyane texted Kaitlyn asking about the decision. She thought it was too kind, and we found ourselves talking nonstop from there. Oreyane, not letting the opportunity slip away, eventually asked Kaitlyn out for lunch to continue our earlier conversation. She said yes. As we walked back to campus from lunch, Oreyane asked Kaitlyn if she would be interested in getting to know each other with the possibility of it becoming something more. Funny enough, she said she didn’t have time for that kind of venture. BUT she agreed to being friends. As time passed (roughly 8 months or so), our friendship grew, and the Lord finally told Kaitlyn to just date him already! Eventually, we found ourselves starting what would become our journey to forever. In the little over 3 years we’ve spent together, we have: Traveled the long 356 miles between GA and NC more times than we can count, Prayed for each other more times than anyone can count, Survived a hurricane and rare southern snow days, Cheered on our friends as they got married, Helped each other bury grandparents and great grandparents, Held each other when we’ve cried, Celebrated job promotions, Charmed each other’s families, Bought our first home…. And we’re just getting started.
