Old Rag Mountain is one of the more challenging hikes in Shenandoah National Park, featuring a Class 3 rock scramble near the summit that demands effort year-round. A $2 day-use ticket is required from March 1 to November 30 and must be reserved online in advance—400 tickets are released 30 days ahead, and another 400 five days ahead. Cell service is limited at the fee station, so secure your ticket beforehand. Standard park entrance fees also apply.
