February 24, 2024 was a beautiful day, if you don’t remember. The sun was warm but not hot, the air was crisp, spring was approaching, and I had just been accepted into the greatest college hippie organization of all time - Aggie Outdoors. One of the first events held by this organization is a massive campout held at a select park or forest in the great state of Texas. This one happened to be at Lost Maples State Natural Area. Now there was this girl I had a crush on… We had talked a few times and found we had a lot of similarities, and as night approached, I saw my opportunity. After writing and performing a guitar/banjo song recounting our day, I invited her to go on a midnight cruise in my truck. We played our favorite tracks for each other and found out that we had an eerily similar music taste. And as I brilliantly crafted the mood with my favorite jazz tracks, “we” decided it was the perfect moment to park the car and dance in the middle of the road as we were serenaded by classic hits from Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Once the rush of realizing I was falling hard subsided, we returned to a sleepy camp, and a RAGING fire. After everyone had fallen asleep, the wind had nurtured a foldable chair into the poorly extinguished fire pit. As the flammable materials of the camping chair were at maximum thrust, we rushed in to save the day and prevent a massive forest fire. Or so I like to think. But that wasn’t the only fire that started that night. Little did we know an inextinguishable flame was also lit between Kaitlyn and I. Here’s to that flame burning for eternity, cheers.
