We're Getting Married!

Kaitlyn & Gene met on some silly dating app. Neither of them really thought that is was possible to find their other half on some dating app that was trendy and their friends encouraged them to use.. but one fateful afternoon, they matched! Neither expected anything out to come of it, and they messaged back and forth for some time before agreeing to go on a date! Their first date was at Mexico Restaurant in Short Pump. Gene was a charmer from the beginning. Mr. Calm, Cool, and Collected, showed up to the first date in his camouflage crocs, with a special sense of self confidence that Kaitlyn had never met before! She knew then that this man was different. Kaitlyn proceeded to talk Gene's ears off during dinner, but it went well! After dinner, Gene took Kaitlyn out for a game of putt-putt, where Kaitlyn proceeded to whiz her ball by Genes head, almost concussing him. For whatever reason, he found her goofiness charming and asked her out on another date! After about a month of courting and a weekend getaway with his friends and family (He had to make sure she could hang), Gene asked Kaitlyn to be his girlfriend! And the rest is HISTORY!

On a seemingly normal Tuesday evening, Gene suggested that they take a walk on the their favorite park. Kaitlyn almost said she didn't want to go for a walk! It had been a hard day, but the look on Gene's face told Kaitlyn he really wanted to go and exercise is always a good thing. They took the dogs, because they love to go too! As the couple was rounding the last turn, a storm started rolling down the water. Kaitlyn picked up the pace, they needed to get home. Gene stopped walking, and he got down on one knee. Kaitlyn turned around to see why he wasn't beside her anymore and he proposed, by the river overlooking the bridge, with their little family all together, with thunder cracking and clouds rolling in. Of course, Kaitlyn said yes! After the moment ended, they ran off together as it started to rain, as new fiancées! It was quite possibly one of the most beautiful moments of all time!

In December of 2018, Gene and Kaitlyn bought their first home together! They just knew that their love was real and they were perfect for one another. With both of them wanting a new housing situation, purchasing their first home seemed like the next natural step. The couple had already discussed marriage in their future, and they took a leap into homeownership together! ~*~ Living our lives together, each day, is such a blessing. We have worked SO HARD at making our house a home. We have labored over our Fixer Upper! We've installed a fence for our dogs, replaced flooring in many rooms, painted almost the whole interior, removed popcorn ceiling, and so much more. Having a roof over our heads is a true blessing but coming home each day to a home that we love, filled with so much more than just stuff, is something that can never be taken for granted. While homeownership brings on new challenges for us, we will continue to stand side by side. We joke often that if we can do these renovations together, where we are are both covered in dirt, aching, exhausted and grumpy, and still end our day with a smile on our faces and love in our hearts, we can conquer all. This beautiful life we have started building can only get better with marriage AND WE CAN'T WAIT!

After purchasing our home, we agreed that we were lacking God in our lives. We sought to find a Church that we could call home here in Powhatan. Neither of us ever really attended church consistently, felt it was important to us to be a part of the body of Christ as we grow together. We started attending Fine Creek Baptist Church, and felt like we were really starting to find our roots here. Fine Creek Baptist has really become a part of who we are and who we want to be. We have established great relationships, attend bible study with our Pastor, and look forward to each marriage counseling session, as well as all services and fellowship. We are so grateful for our growing relationship with God and the connections we have made at Fine Creek Baptist Church. We look forward to sharing our love with you as our dear Pastor marries us on our big day.
