David and Kaitlyn are high school sweethearts. They met when they were just 15 and 16 years old at church. Long before they knew each other, Kaitlyn had prayed to meet her future husband at church... and little did they know, that prayer would come true. Right away, they became best friends. High school was filled with laughter, hallway walks between classes (always side by side), and a friend group that became more like family — David, two of his brothers, Kaitlyn, and her two best friends. They did everything together: youth group events, late-night Covid group phone calls, and summer city park hangouts. One of their favorite summer activities was learning to country swing dance as a group. That’s where their story began to change. Everyone would head to the Louk house on evenings and weekends to practice and to no one's surprise, David and Kaitlyn hardly ever danced with anyone but each other. This helped them develop an even stronger connection after nearly three years of being “just best friends,” and somewhere between the spins and dips, they fell in love. A few months later, life took them on different paths — Kaitlyn headed to Texas A&M for college, while David stayed in Lockhart for work and college. They’ve been doing long distance ever since — nearly four years of growing stronger, learning patience, and choosing each other every single day. After Kaitlyn’s freshman year, David, alongside her parents and grandparents, helped build a tiny home for her to live in — and now, that tiny house will be their very first home together. They still love dancing together. It’s their favorite way to connect and unwind, and it always reminds them of where their love first began. From high school hallways to late-night FaceTimes, from long-distance hugs to country dance floors, they're so excited to finally step into this next chapter — hand in hand, heart to heart. A Note About Our Names: As we begin this new chapter together, we want to share something meaningful about the name we'll carry forward as a family. After much thought and heartfelt conversations, we've decided that David will be taking Kaitlyn’s last name, and together we will be hyphenating it with Kaitlyn's mother’s maiden name. From this day forward, we will be known as the DuBois-Louk family. This decision is deeply personal to us. The names DuBois (pronounced “dew-bwah”) and Louk (pronounced “luke”) hold rich histories and profound significance in Kaitlyn’s family, and Kaitlyn has always felt that was the name she wanted to take as her own. David decided that he wanted to join Kaitlyn in taking this hyphenated last name - a decision made with love, intention, and deep respect for both of our families. This choice continues the legacy of both the DuBois and Louk names, but is also done while recognizing and carrying forward the values instilled by the Holden family. To honor his own family’s legacy, David has decided to take his original last name as his new middle name. We are grateful to both of our families for the support and traditions that have shaped who we are. Thank you for supporting us in this meaningful choice. We’re proud to move into our future as the DuBois-Louk family. With love, David & Kaitlyn DuBois-Louk
