Travel

For those traveling to either of our events, below is some helpful information on accommodations, travel, and ferries.

Travel Note

Portland Accommodation Information

For those who are traveling to our hometown reception, if you decide to stay overnight in the area, the Holiday Inn in Portland is a great option. There are also several AirBnBs and VRBOs in the area. Muncie, about 30 to 40 minutes from Portland, also has plenty of great hotel and AirBnB/VRBO options.

Flight

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

If you are planning on flying, the most popular airport to fly into is SeaTac. From here, it is about a two-hour drive north to the ferry terminal.

Flight

Bellingham International Airport

Another great airport to fly into is Bellingham International Airport. It is typically more expensive to fly into than SeaTac but is only about a one-hour drive to the ferry terminal.

Flight

Vancouver International Airport

Another airport option is in Vancouver. A passport is needed to fly into this airport and to cross the border from Canada into Washington. Sometimes the flights into this airport are a little cheaper than flying into SeaTac. This airport is about a two-hour drive south to the ferry terminal (and crosses an international border).

Travel Note

Anacortes Ferry Terminal

Once you arrive in Washington, you will need to travel to the Anacortes Ferry Terminal. Here, you will take a scenic ferry ride on a Washington State Ferry to Friday Harbor. Depending on the number of stops the ferry is making, the ferry ride will be about an hour to an hour and a half long. Be sure the check the ferry schedule from Anacortes to Friday Harbor to ensure that you arrive at the terminal at least 45 minutes before departure! If you are not taking a car on the ferry, no reservation is needed and you can just pay for your ticket at the ferry terminal that day. If you are taking a car on the ferry, a reservation is needed in advance. Vehicle reservations open up three times per year: 1. April 15 at 1 PM EST 2. Exactly two WEEKS before your specific sailing date at 10 AM EST 3. Exactly two DAYS before your specific sailing date at 10 AM EST If you don’t make a reservation or can’t get your preferred time, there’s very limited stand-by space available on all sailings, or you may have to wait for later sailings. If you do not show up for your reservation, you will be charged a no-show fee. Otherwise, there is no cost to make a reservation. If you click the "View" button below, you will be directed to a page walking first-time riders through the process. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to Kaitlyn!

Seaplane into Friday Harbor

If you'd rather not rent a car to get from the airport to the ferry terminal, several airlines offer short flights to Friday Harbor. Click "View" below to view these airlines.

Travel Note

Will I need a car on this trip?

Unless you are flying into Friday Harbor by seaplane, you will need a car to travel from the airport to Anacortes Ferry Terminal. While the island is fairly small, a car is needed to get around to most places, including our ceremony location. However, not everyone will need a car once on the island, as we can carpool among a few cars once everyone has arrived on the island. We recommend coordinating with other attendees to rent a car together/renting one car per family.
